The speed you need depends on if you are streaming content, making video calls or gaming. Please see our Choosing your provider and package page for more information about getting the right package for you. When you know what you need you should Compare Broadband Packages and see what speeds are available in your area. In general, the faster your internet speed the better but, before you pay for a higher package or swap providers, you should consider what speed is good enough for your needs. This could indicate a problem with the service you receive, some problem within your property or a result of increased use of the internet during that time. By testing regularly you will be able to see if there is any reduction in your speed over time. We recommend that you regularly test your internet to ensure it is meeting your current and future needs. We took some screenshots of both the desktop and mobile versions of the test, which you can check out below if you’d like to get a better feel for the interface.Broadband Speed Test: How fast is fast enough? Why do you need an internet speed test? Not only did these results align closely with our expectations, but they also were remarkably uniform with almost no variance from test to test. The ping was exactly 11 ms all five times we ran the test, while the mean download and upload speeds registered at 181.1 Mbps and 6.1 Mbps respectively. We will note that the mobile version (Tests 4 and 5) runs a bit faster than the desktop version (Tests 1-3). Let’s get to the results! On average, the test took 4.3 seconds to load, and the entire test takes around 39.6 seconds to run, which is fairly typical for online speed tests. Running the speed test confirmed this, and with rather impressive consistency and reliability as well. Upon testing this connection with competing speed tests, we determined that our ISP not only lives up to the advertised speeds, but actually exceeds them a bit. To run our speed tests, we used a connection with advertised download speeds of 150 Mbps.
